IINET has staked a claim on connecting emergency and police services to the National Broadband Network after the internet provider notched up a first in Australia by linking Tasmania's police departments to the fibre network.

As part of a three-year contract with the Department of Police & Emergency Management in Tasmania, iiNet has connected two police departments to the NBN and has another five hook-ups under construction.
