Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors has recalled about 14,700 electric vehicles (EV) in Japan and Europe over a defective brake issue.

The recall affects about 3,400 i-MiEVs and 2,400 MINICAB-MiEV vehicles in Japan, and over 8,900 i-MiEV vehicles in Europe.

Recall is made due to installation of improperly shaped or defective electric pump that provides air to the brake booster, which increases the forces applied from the foot for braking resulting in a longer run before the vehicle comes to complete stop.

Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities senior analyst Tatsuo Yoshida said that this is a matter of one part, and it's too much to apply the issue to say there is something wrong with electric vehicles.

"The cause of the problem is identified and there were no accidents," Yoshida said.

The statement regarding the recall of EVs sold in the US is yet to be revealed by the company.
