Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is transferring the food packaging machinery operations to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mechatronics Systems ((MHI-MS)), in order to strengthen small and medium-scale business structures.

The operations, which are currently performed by Nagoya-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Food & Packaging Machinery (MHI-SK), will be transferred from 1 October.

The integration will enable the company to pursue synergies in technological and sales capabilities, in addition to standardizing and enhancing the efficiency of related business administrative processes.

After the merger with MHI-SK, MHI-MS will include around 1,350 employees, who will handle a range of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), hydraulic machinery, machinery systems, mechanical parking systems, steel structure plants and food packaging machinery.

Established in 2005, MHI-SK manufactures food packaging equipment. It is being merged with MHI-MS to further expand business and pursue developments in products related industries other than food and beverages.

The main focus after the integration will be on technological areas, comprising of applying ITS control technologies to food packaging machinery and communization of small and medium-scale machinery system products.

The company will also focus on strengthening the development capabilities through technology and resource sharing.

MHI said that it will work closely with MHI-MS and provide all-round support to its business developments.
